Poll: Expanding DFA Empty Poll: Expanding DFA

I've been approached with a request to expand DFA to include a Company of Heroes branch. For those of you who do not know, Company of Heroes is a strategy game for pc. The motto of our CoH branch will be the same as that of the BC2 branch: pro teamplay in a casual and mature atmosphere. I still play CoH every now and then, and in my opinion it is one of the best rts (real time strategy) games out there. It is also rather cheap, available for purchase both in stores and electronically via Steam.

We will not use separate forums, but the CoH branch will be a smaller sub-section of DFA, BC2 will still be our biggest game when it comes to members playing the game. The CoH branch will have an administrator and a couple of sub-forums of its own, such as recruitment and tactics discussion. The casual sections will still be shared for the entire clan.

    * This is all provided the majority of votes goes in the direction of expanding.
** As of this moment it is not an option to expand to other games in addition to CoH.

Company of heroes still maintains a permanent spot on my hard drive, so I'd be all for it.

Also, since COH: Online is free to play, any member of the clan with the hardware to run it could easily participate!

CoH:O does not exist anymore, check the offical announcement. I don't mind, seeing as CoH:O was a disappointment in my opinion, but now CoH vanilla will keep receiving patches and updates (YES!). There is in other words no better time to "start a CoH clan", or a branch as we are considering. CoH vanilla is very cheap as opposed to CoH:O being free, and this has its benefits in my opinion. Paying a total amount of $19 for an awesome game (CoH vanilla) is a better tradeoff than being at a disadvantage in a game where you can buy better units for real money (CoH:O).

All in all, CoH vanilla was better and costs very little compared to what you get for your money.

Im never touching COHO again cuz it takes every nice aspect of Company of heroes and than just totally rapes it really really bad, but it would be awesome if there would be a CoH section of DFA.

I'm all for it. I sort of blow at the game, so this could be a nice way to improve my COH skills.

I say no, having players from 2 games will have the clan get less of a bond

I'm not sure if I agree. The BC2 players will "bond" between themselves while the CoH players would "bond" between themselves as well. We'd all communicate through the same forums and get to know each other irrespective of specific games, but each branch would still be tight-knit when it comes to the members comprising it knowing each other.

I agree with Moliat (shock gasp horror) I doubt it'll effect our bond in a negative way at all. It means we have more people for more interesting conversations and also allows us to extend the live of DFA overall by expanding to other places. In future when I have a better PC I would love to start a HoN branch of DFA or any number of other games to come. The only negative is that I don't have CoH! :P

You don't need any of them to play online, but I would recommend getting the Opposing Fronts expansion since it gives you two more factions to play with. The Tales of Valor expansion pack only holds some replacement vehicles for use in online multiplayer, but very few use any of them.

I speak out of experience, but let me ask this, what are the good sides of expanding for players from anonother game?

To keep the clan growing, keep it from dying down due to inactivity. Also some of our members are already playing the game, and the people we play with (especially those I play with) are interested in creating a new CoH clan, so why not expand DFA to also include a CoH branch? People within each branch will "bond" well and become a tight-knit group, but we can still communicate between the branches. It's basically a way of keeping DFA growing and moving further towards our potential. Those are my arguments, at least.

Didn't even work really well for my clan, wich exists now for about 6 years, when expanding from BF2 to BC2, you will really have 2 groups, wich is weird, and 1 of them kinda past

I don't see what there is wrong with having two groups for two different games. The way some of the CSM stuff is going we could see fragmentation of DFA there though. :/ Thats another story though.

    Bonuses of expansion
-Opportunities for us to make new friends
    -Try out a new game
    -Get assistance with that game
-Pull some of them into BC2
    -New Viewpoints for Discussion
-Might pick up some coders or something who can make this forum even better
    -New ass to check out

    Negatives
-I am really struggling to find something..

In many ways we already are grouped by the veteran and soldier status, and not in a bad way. You have to show dedication to reach the grow and have more of a say in DFA. In many aspects I expect this expansion to run more or less twins, the older and sexier (us, mainly kazo) and the new twin which would be CoH. I don't see a downside.

Its understandable that there are concerns that this may fragment the squad a bit. We had this exact issue in my WW2 Flight Sim Squad. There were fears about adding secondary games..but it all worked out for the exact reasons CRUSH mentions above.
We all know that our primary game is BFBC2- otherwise we would not have signed up and continue to be members of this unit. There is more risk in fragmenting the squad through CSM. I.e- if a couple of members are not part of a CSM unit, they may feel left out or be excluded from games..etc

Keep in mind though that the CSM squads will only stick together for CSM practice events and when they practice squad rush games. For the most part, during public play, they should play with every member of DFA as equals.

I would have to agree with moliat and crush on this one even thought i personally don't like the expansion but that's because i cant partake in it lol! If you look at it from their point of view it is a good thing because it does keep the clan moving in the right direction plus when BF3 comes out would you not want DFA to expand to that? I know for damn sure i would. I may still play BFC2 but i will most likely want to play BF3 more. I feel like this would be great opportunity for us it will not only help us expand but it can also bring us closer together as a family.
